At Notre Dame High School, academic guidance is a central part of our commitment to educating the whole person. Our counseling program supports students academically, personally, and spiritually, helping each young woman grow in confidence, responsibility, and self-advocacy as she prepares for college and life beyond high school.
Notre Dame’s counselors are experienced, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to student success. They are available throughout the school day to support students as academic or personal questions arise and to provide guidance during every stage of a student’s high school journey.
Thoughtful and intentional academic planning is essential to college readiness. Our counselor work closely with students, families, teachers, and administrators to design individualized four-year academic plans that meet or exceed University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) entrance requirements while honoring each student’s strengths, interests, and goals.
Counselor:
Guide students through course selection each year
Recommend appropriate levels of rigor, including Honors, AP, and Dual Enrollment
Monitor academic progress and graduation requirements
Help students set realistic, challenging, and achievable academic goals
Students are encouraged to take increasing ownership of their academic decisions as they mature, while counselors provide consistent oversight and support to ensure balance, growth, and success.
Notre Dame recognizes that adolescence brings unique academic, social, and emotional challenges. Counselors are available to support students as they navigate personal concerns, stress, and transitions throughout high school.
Counseling relationships are grounded in trust, care, and respect. Counselors provide a safe and confidential environment in which students may discuss concerns, with confidentiality upheld except in situations involving safety or legal requirements. When a student’s needs extend beyond what can be addressed at school, counselors collaborate with families and provide referrals to appropriate community resources.
Through personal guidance, Notre Dame counselors serve as advocates for students, supporting their well-being, resilience, and growth within a faith-centered community.
